A local asphalt batch plant is dependent on barge deliveries of aggregate and therefore must operate along a sensitive waterway in western Washington State. Clear Creek worked with the facility operator and their consultant to evaluate the existing site conditions and options for upgrading existing stormwater controls. Clear Creek then conducted bench-scale treatability analysis to confirm the effectiveness of the recommended stormwater treatment approach prior to implementation.

The chitosan enhanced sand filtration system was integrated into the existing stormwater drainage system to limit the costs associated with the retrofit. The facility personnel worked directly with Clear Creek staff to provide onsite welding, electrical connections and equipment placement. After system installation, Clear Creek trained the facility staff and continues to provide ongoing support services.
