In fall of 2015, record rainfalls hit the Pacific Northwest causing many construction sites to flood with turbid stormwater runoff. Clear Creek Systems, Inc. responded to an emergency call at a construction project located in south-western Washington state. The project’s 3 million gallon stormwater retention vault was reaching capacity and onsite stormwater treatment was needed to reduce turbidity and pH prior to discharge to an adjacent stream.
Clear Creek provided a 300 gallon-per-minute chitosan enhanced sand filtration (CESF) system with an expedited installation over a weekend. The CESF system was utilized to treat nearly 25,000,000 gallons of construction stormwater runoff with 100% compliance with the project’s construction stormwater permit. The CESF effluent was typically less than 5 NTU with a neutral pH.
